Colour of My Mood
Did you know that colours affect how you feel? Yes it's true!
Studies have shown that all colours convey different ideas and have an impact on our emotions. Red makes our hearts beat faster, whereas blue calms us down. Yellow brings joy and green serenity and peacefulness.
Colours have negative and positive meanings. For example deep red can denote love, romance and strength, but a fiery red stimulate anger and heat. Blue is soothing, refreshing and conveys intelligence, however it can also give the impression of unfriendliness and coldness. White is pure, clean and creates a sense of space but at the same time symbolises emptiness and loneliness.
How does this relate to design? Well, the power of color can greatly effect how people respond to your design. Therefore, it is important to gain an understanding on the meaning and emotional effect of colours when designing. Using the "wrong" colour will lead to your audience to misinterpreting your message and intentions. A colourful party invitation will evoke a different reaction to one that is completely black. The first promises a fun and exciting time, while the later is perhaps a formal and exclusive event. With that said, selecting the right colours can play vital role portraying what you want to say.
Tip of the Day: Before designing, define the message you want to get across to your audience. From there, create a colour palette.. is it going to be bright, pastel or dark? Only then experiment with different colours until you feel like you have achieved your goal.
